Assalam alaikum,
Hutheifa ibn al-Yaman related that when they assisted at dinner with the
Prophet, none of them used to extend his hand (to reach the food) before the
Prophet did. Once, when attending dinner with him, a bedouin came as if
being pushed and moved forward to put his hand to the food, but the Prophet
took hold of his hand. Then a woman came as if being pushed and went on to
put her hand on the food, but the Prophet took hold of her hand. The Prophet
then said, "The devil avails himself of the food when Allah's name has not
been mentioned on it. He (the devil) brought that bedouin to cause the food
to be allowable to the him (the devil). So I took hold of his hand. Then the
devil brought this woman to cause such allowability but I took hold of her
hand. By Him in Whose hands my soul is, the devil's hand is in my hold
together with their hands".
Ibn Saad related that Abu Meebed al-Khozai said that when Allah's Messenger
migrated from Mecca he passed by the tend of Meebed's mother ad asked her
for meat and dates to buy, but he found nothing of that with her. Looking
around, he saw a ewe and asked about it. Meebed's mother said it was an
exhausted ewe which was unable to go with the other sheep. Allah's Messenger
asked if the ewe was able to give milk. The woman said that the ewe was too
weak to give milk. He said, "Would you allow me to milk it?". She answered,
"Yes! If you please". He rubbed it's udder mentioning the name of Allah, and
prayed unto Allah to bless the ewe. Then he asked for a pot where he milked
the ewe. The pot was filled up with the milk being covered with the foam of
the milk. He gave Embeds mother the pot to drink until she was satisfied.
Then he gave the pot to his companions and then he drank last saying, "The
waiter should be the last to drink". After milking the ewe once more filling
it and giving it to Meebed's mother, he left with his companions. When Abu
Meebed returned to his home he asked how the milk came from the ewe as the
ewe was lean. Meebed's mother told her husband that a blessed man passed by
them, and related the affair to him. Her husband said, "That should be the
man of the Quraish. Had I been here I would have accompanied him. And this I
shall do, if I find a way to that".
Rabiea al-Adaweya was six years old when her father asked her to dine with
him. She asked him if it was from an unlawful source. Her father asked, "Ad
if it was from unlawful source but we have nothing else, what would you
do?". She replied, "To endure hunger in this world is better than to endure
torture of hell".
Prophet Abraham was gracious and hospitable. He went out one day seeking a
guest but found none. Returning home, he found a man therein. He asked the
ma, "Who brought you into my house without permission?". The man answered,
"He Who permitted me in, is it's Lord. I am the Angel of Death". Abraham
asked, "For what reason have you come to me; as a collector or as a guest?".
He answered, "But, as a guest". Abraham asked, "What is your mission?". The
Angel replied, "Allah has sent me to convey good tidings to a man from the
earth dwellers, that Allah, the Exalted, hath befriended him". Abraham said,
"Tell me about that man, should he be at the end of the earth I would go to
him, and spend the rest of my life therewith". The Angel of Death said,
"That man is but you, Abraham!". Abraham then asked, "O Angel, do you know
why Allah hath taken me as His friend?". The Angel replied, "Because you
give to people without them asking you".
Prophet John (Yahya), the son of Zakariya, one day saw Iblis, and asked him,
"O enemy of Allah! Do you have something to lead me astray?". Iblis replied,
"O John, I have nothing to lead you astray but one thing: to eat much, in
order to drink much, and thus to become lazy and fail to make your prayers
in time". John replied, "By Allah, I shall never get saturated henceforth".
Then Iblis said, "And, by Allah, I shall never advise anybody henceforth".
