My Islamic studies Professor Dr Jamal Badawi told me the People of Islam were looking for a Woman to lead them on a Great Holy W.A.R.S.= World Arising Responsibly and Spiritually.
I told him I was one such Woman but that all Woman are leaders in their homes and communities.
Could you kindly be a bit more clear and explicit on the "woman the Muslims are awaiting". Insha Allah plz ask Dr. Jamaal Badawi about the woman, i would like to learn more.
Also plz convey my Salaam to the scholar.

First of all, Islam does speak about this topic, but against it. I mean, that, there is hadith (although I regrettably do not have the quote right now...I am still searching for it) which advises strongly against any nation which takes a woman as their leader. If I am remembering correctly, this hadith even mentions about the destruction or lead towards destruction of those who take the woman for their leader.
Anne Marie...you have also mentioned here in your comments that you suggested to Dr. Badawi that you are such a woman, indicating your own aspiration towards such a position of authority. There is another hadith...in which those who aspire themselves to positions of authority...will not find the help of Allah, but rather hardships when they attain such a position, by the very virtue that they themselves aspired to acquire that position of authority. If a position of authority comes to a person without aspiring themselves towards it, then Allah helps that person, and causes ease for him in such a position.
Women are leaders in a sense that they are the teachers and educators of the home, and therefore of the generations of the world. But that is more or less the extent of their leadership. We are shown even in the Quran, of the natural tendencies of woman and man...that men are created by the simple nature of the creation, to be stronger than women, and to have the natural position of authority because of that strength and stature. That is not to over-run women, but to coincide with them on natural and peaceful terms. Each person, regardless man or woman, has his/her own particular assignment in this life and in this creation.
I hope that this in part answers your questions. I am still searching for the mentioned hadith, and as soon as I locate it, I will post it here, inshaAllah.
Om Mohammed.

Assalamualaikum all,
To me that Hadiths about women being leaders is for those in the prophet's (s.a.w) time, where leaders usually led soldiers to war.A womean is known or is naturally weaker than a man.We have to accept that. How can a weak lead armies to attack? And of course men are created with ego. They won't listen to women's instructions.Nowdays is a woman is elected for being presiden,I think it's okay. She doesn't have to go to the war field. All she have to do is sit in the parliement house, give out orders, discuss issues with the ministers and also govern a country.
I agree with Om_Mohammad," Women are leaders in a sense that they are the teachers and educators of the home, and therefore of the generations of the world. Each person, regardless man or woman, has his/her own particular assignment in this life and in this creation." The Quraan had state that in chapter 4( An-Nisa').
Mardhiah Mansor
women can lead in some things u know!
she can be a leader in the sense that she is a muslim alema where other WOMEN come to ask questions. She can be a muslim woman Imam where she only talks to women not in presense of men...
she can teach like some brothers suggested....
but she can't lead in the sense of military, or gov.
this is only my understanding of the issue :D

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-04-02 AT 05:29 PM (GMT)]Asslamaoalykum to those who follow guidence
It is proven from many authentic ahadeeth that Hz aaisha siddika [RA] wife of mohamed saw after his death guided muslim ummaha for many years with knowledge gained from holy prophet
And her advice in matter of Hadeeth was considerd on priority by other compainions
This is another point that our shia friend might be having wrong view about her due to their own prejudice with her father Abubakr [RA]
I feel that anne marri habibi is right if it is point of leading in religious thoughts. A wife also can guide her husband if she has more knowledge of islam
In worldy affairs i mean buisneess etc it is allowed by our supream authority i.e: allah/prophet that women can carry on her buisness affairs respecting hizab laws. So obviously female boss will lead other male staff
AM I RIGHT PLS COMMENT
KHALID...
Assalamu alikom Khalid...
well ... Sayeda Khadija was a business woman and she had other males working with her.
so she can in a way... however, women were not allowed to lead the troops, or to be khalifa etc.
So my understanding is that women can hold positions but not those like an affair of a state or something.
I don't know. Also we notice how no prophet was a female... they were all males!!
so... this also might mean something... Allah knows best
