===================================

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Salaam,

Do we have to keep hold of Bible, Torah also with Quran?

I think Yes! As per 5:44, “Indeed! We who revealed the Torah(to Moses):
therein IS guidance and light. By its standard Prophets who surrendered
judged the Jews, and the rabbis and the priests with it. As they were
bidden to observe Allah’s Book, and thereunto were thy witnesses. So
fear not mankind, but fear Me. And barter not My revelations for a
little gain. WHOSO JUDGETH NOT BY THAT WHAT EVER ALLAH HATH REVEALED:
SUCH ARE DIS-BELIEVERS”. 5:44

Have you noticed, that Allah(God) said “Whatever Allah has revealed”, As
we know, Allah has revealed Torah, Bible and Quran that we know. There
are more books like Zaboor(might be Hindu’s Scripture), etc…..

You can see the difference in 7:3 (Chapter:verse)

“Follow that WHATEVER IS SENT DOWN UNTO YOU from your Lord, and follow
no guardians beside Him, Little do you recollect!” 7:3

Now, the difference between both the verses are “Whatever is revealed by
Allah(God) with that we have to make judgements” 5:44 and “Whatever is
revealed unto us by our Lord has to be followed” 7:3.

As we know that Quran does not contain contradictions 4:82, the above
two verses are clarifying two different parts.

1). We have to follow what ever is revealed unto us from our Lord – 7:3
2). We have to make judgments with all the books that was revealed by
Allah(God) as all the books contains guidance and light – 5:44

First point is clear enough to understand…. But the second part has to
be clarified that how can we judge from Torah(the Book of Jews) and
Bible(the Book of Christians) and any other if we know the
source….including Quran. Now, the question is how we can do that???

Ofcourse, we can do that by using the method which was shown in 5:48.

“And unto you have We revealed the Book with the Truth, CONFIRMING
whatever Book was before it, and a Controller / Preponderant /
Dominating / Ruler / Master (Muhaiymin) over it. So, judge between them
with that Allah has revealed, and follow not their desires away from the
Truth which has come unto you……..” 5:48.

So, now it is easy for us to judge by using all the books between us by
keeping Quran as a Controller on the previous Books.

To support the previous claim I would like drive your attention towards
5:68.

“Tell, O Ahlal-Kitaab(People/Family of the Book)! You have no grounds to
stand upon unless you observe the Torah and the Gospel and that which
was revealed UNTO YOU from your Lord. That which is revealed unto you
from your Lord is certain to increase the contumacy and disbelief of
many of them. But grieve not for the disbelieving folk”. 5:68

So, Who are Ahlal-Kitaab (People/Family of the Book)?

“They are not all alike. Of the Ahlal-Kitaab(People of the Book) there
is a staunch community who recite the revelations of Allah(God) in the
night, and they fall into prostration”. 3:113.

“They believe in Allah(God) and the Last Day, and enjoin right conduct
and forbid indecency, and vie one with another in good works. They are
of the righteous”. 3:114.

For more references, please check 3:70, 3:99, 3:110, 3:119, 4:159,
4:171, 5:65-66, 5:68, 29:46, 57:28-29.

They could be any from Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, or without /
any other religion….

“Indeed! Those who believe and those who are Jews, and Christians, and
from any other / or who don’t have religion, whoever believe in
Allah(God) and the Last Day and do right – surely their reward is with
their Lord, and there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they
grieve”. 2:62

Finally, we learn that we must have to keep hold of all the books
revealed from our Lord for Judgement by Controlling it with Quran.

All the translation has been taken from Picktall’s translation of Quran
with some necessary changes.

The above is my personal understanding about the given verse. What do you all think?

Please recheck all the references given before accepting it 26:73.

May Allah(God) guide us all towards the Truth and open our hearts to understand and accept the Truth.

Assalaamu alaikum.

Yes, of course...the books of the revealed religions are the Bible, the Torah, and the Quran. However, what we have in the Quran is not only the eminating culmination of those previous scriptures, it is also a correction on what has been transformed and tampered with in those previous messages by man. Why was the Quran or the message of Islam sent to begin with? Why was there even a need for another messenger? Those previous messages, which were in their originality the same as what we know today as Islam, were tampered with by people to the extent that the message had been distorted. If that had not been, there would have been no need for another messenger, nor the revelation of the Quran in it's final and pristine form. People began to reject and misinterpret portions of those messages, or even worse...worshipping and associating partners with Allah...and therefore the need of the true and untarnished message to appear again...and this time with the promise as well as warning to all that this message is something which is protected from human interference.

Therefore, what we have in the Quran suffices us in all matters, without the need to resort to either the Torah or the Bible...for what is left today of those scriptures...is not the original message...it has been tampered with, and there is much evidence of human interference. The original message, as God gave it to mankind, of those previous scriptures, is no longer available for man to see or to know...it has been tampered with.

The prophet (SAAW) himself is known to have told his companions, and to warn them...not to resort to the books and scriptures of the people of the book...that the quran is sufficient for us. If that was good enough for the prohet and his companions, then that should be enough for us, as well.

As for the bible of today...there is much evidence within any one version...of so much contradiction, making evident the tampering of humans in the message...making doubtful as to what is remaining of the original message from God, and what is man's words. The Quran is much more pure, much more reliable, and much more true that it is actually the word of God.

May Allah direct us all to that which is best.

Om Mohammed.

I agree brother:D I think way too many Muslims don't put enough attention on our previous Books as we should. Just like the Qu'ran says:

Then is it only a part of the Book that ye believe in, and do ye reject the rest? (2.85)

Remember that everything that has been revealed in all the Books has come down from the one Book that is with Allah, some of it is in Torah, some in the Zabur, some in the Injil, and some in the Qur'an. Why limit ourselves from the bounty of Allah?!

There's a lot of good stuff in the old Books, it's really too bad so few people read it. For some people I think they're scared they might be too much influenced by Jewish or Christian ideas, but those who trust in Allah have nothing to fear. (I can't remember what aya that is.)
