Attacks on Jalalabad, Gardez Airports; 2 US troops among 5 soldiers
killed

Buildings and equipment damaged

QUETTA: Five soldiers including two Americans were killed when the
Afghan mujahideen attacked the US troops based on Gardez and
Jalalabad airports, reports reaching here said.

According to the reports the mujahideen attacked the barracks of US
troops at Gardez and Jalalabad air bases with rockets and missiles.
Buildings and equipment were damaged during the attack.

The reports suggested that about five soldiers were killed in both
these attacks while several others were injured. At least two among
the dead are believed to be US soldiers.

US helicopters and warplanes started combing the area soon after the
attacks but there were no reports about any bombing on Afghans in
retaliation of the attacks.

The attacks came at a time when the US forces are busy in another
search operation in the areas close to Pakistan's border to arrest
Taliban and so-called Al-Qaeda activists.

Meanwhile, thousands of Afghans held a demonstration at Gardez city
to protest against the continuing military operations of US troops in
Afghanistan against so-called Al-Qaeda or Taliban.

The demonstrators were chanting slogans against the US forces and
were demanding immediate withdrawal of foreign troops from
Afghanistan.
