Assalaamu alaikum.

In the world that has developed today, there are millions of products, literally, that although some of the ingredients may be named, yet the normal person(that is...the one who does not have a degree in chemistry or education as to such chemical names and medical names of things)...does not actually know what is included in those products.

Many muslims wonder why so many of their dua's are not accepted. There could be a miriad of reasons why. SubhanAllah...Allah does as He pleases, that is for sure...but we have been reassured by the Quran...that Allah will answer he/she who calls upon Him. However, there are conditions for our dua's to be accepted. The verse:

'When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I respond to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me: let them also, with a will, listen to My call, and believe in Me: that they may walk in the right way.'

This makes it imperative not only that Allah has promised that He will listen and respond to our calls...but as well that the condition that we (the suppliants) must therefore listen to His call...i.e. obey what he has layed down as guidelines for us in the Book of Guidance...the Quran.

One very basic and common reason in this day and age could very well be our intake of nourishment. Many ingredients of items are listed under names not commonly known to people as of their origin or makeup, and therefore one gets into the perhaps undesired and unintended sin of consuming some haram elements in their intake of food and drink. As well, for those items perhaps listed or marked as 'halal'...can we really be sure that they are in fact butchered or manufactured halal? Completely?

It is also imperative that we remember daily to ask Allah for forgiveness not only of the sins that we realize and know that we have committed, but as well for any sins which we may have committed unintentionally or even unknowingly (such as, perhaps, consuming something which is, in fact, haram).

Below is a list of halal/haram foods and food ingredients which was sent to me via email...it is not of my own composition. But it is something which we should all put more emphasis upon in our daily lives. This is an area which many muslims sadly do not concentrate very much on.

I am struggling every day with food. my mother and father eat mainly haram foods and leave me with little choice. I refuse to eat what they cook me but i need to eat like everybody else.
The fruit is good but expensive, bread seems to do little and i am confused by most foods. I have vegetables and fish and so on but then i dont know what to do with them. Does anybody have any recipes or suggestions.
I feel weak now when just a week ago i was strong. I feel persecuted for simply wanting to eat healthily. Whenever i say i want to learn to cook good meals and buy healthy food i am either shouted at or told that i cannot and i am twenty years old. Its unbelievable.
Also if anybody has any suggestions of work for me in the middle east or anywhere else i would be most grateful. I need to escape my parents and start living my own life. I sing and play guitar and have some qualifications in computers and so on but my love is of music and i would work hard day and night and would not ask for much in return.
