Could someone tell me whether story writing is allowed as a career in Islam (keeping in mind that the story is aimed at making Muslims think, and a wonderful way to get the attention of those who read fiction)?

Asalamoalaikum

It is reported from Hudhaifa that news reached him (the Holy Prophet) that a certain man carried tales. Upon this Hudhaifa remarked: I heard Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) saying: The tale-bearer shall not enter Paradise.[br]
It is narrated on the authority of Hammam b. al-Harith: We were sitting with Hudhaifa in the mosque. A man came and sat along with us. It was said to Hudhaifa that he was the man who carried tales to the ruler. Hudhaifa remarked with the intention of conveying to him: I have heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) saying: The tale-bearer will not enter Paradise.þ

Thank you for your answer. Tale-bearers are people who spread mischief by telling A that B said this-and-this about you. "Tales" or "Stories" are not the same as tale-bearing or backbiting (according to a Hadeeth, if you say something bad but true about another person behind his back, it's called backbiting; and if what you said was false, then it's slander).
When it's made clear in the story that this is Fiction, I don't think you can classify it with Lies - which are falsehoods manufactured over real people or real things.

I haven't heard a ruling one way or another, but I know that there have been some great fiction produced by Muslims. Who can not think Juha is great :) I have many Muslim written fiction books for my children. Poetry has always been used amongst Muslims to relate stories, feelings, history, laughter ect ect.

- Never do I argue with a man with a desire to hear him say what is wrong, or to expose him and win victory over him. Whenever I face an opponent in debate I silently pray - O Lord, help him so that truth may flow from his heart and on his tongue, and so that if truth is on my side, he may follow me; and if truth be on his side, I may follow him.

Assalamoalaikum muslims
A muslim can write stories(fictional)da'wah, islaahi and creating awareness among the Ummah but one should be careful to ensure that the style, contents and goal are beneficial and that the story helps to explain something about Islam and serves as a effective means of teaching and guiding people. like if you know the book of sa'di Gulistan-e-saadi and hakayat-e-romi by Maulana Romi

Assalamualaikum Wr Wb,

"And when the Prayer is finished, then may ye disperse through the land, and seek of the Bounty of Allah: and celebrate the Praises of Allah often (and without stint): that ye may prosper."

Islam encourages us to look for jobs, as long as the job is good and doesn't go against its teaching. If writing stories is your talent, then grab the oppotunity to earn some allowance. The money can be used for ibadah. If you are happy with your job, the result will be satisfying.Further more stories do play part during leisure hours.
