View Full Version : Sexual Dos and Don'ts
Can someone list the sexual DOs and DON'Ts of Islam? I am aware of what it is in Christianity, but curious about Islam.
Thank you.
Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will... (2:223)
Rasool Allah (SAAW) explained the meaing of the ayah saying:
Intercourse in the Vagina is permissible in any position which one desires to adopt. From the front or rear, so long as intercourse during menstruation and anal sex does not take place, for these are Haraam.
(Tafseer Fathul Qadeer; Shawkaani).
"Jabir (Allah be pleased with him) declared that the Jews used to say: When a man has intercourse with his wife through the vagina but being on her back. the child will have squint, so the verse came down:" Your wives are your tilth; go then unto your tilth as you may desire" (ii. 223) (Translation of Sahih Muslim, Book 8, The Book of Marriage (Kitab Al-Nikah), Number 3363)"
Ayah no. 223 of Surah Baqarah was revealed to refute this saying of the Jews.
Thus it is clear that a man cannot have intercourse with his wife during her menstruation. And he cannot have anal sex. These are the Don'ts. The rest i guess are the Dos.
Thank you for the follow up.
Also, more general questions.
Like how many wives may you have? Some translate no more than four, others nine, others infinite.
What of marriage ceremony?
I already know same-sex intercourse is forbidden just as in Christianity and Judism.
Thank you.
In Islam a man can have upto 4 wives. It is incorrect to say that more are allowed, as Allah Has put a limit. You must be careful about the texts you read. And, a man can only marry 4 wives if he is sure he will fulfil the rights of all 4, else he is not allowed. And there are some other cases, example, if the wife cannot give hima child, i.e. she is barren, etc.
The marriage ceremony part i have very little or no knowledge of. I would ask those who have the knowledge to kindly share it, Insha Allah (God willing).
Thank you again Asif. I understood that most Muslims said that 4 was the limit and that the other interpretations were wrong.
Also, your prophet said you can also have slave girls. Does Islam allow slavery?
hello,
In quran there is a clear limit of wives as four if a man can act justly between them. Keep in mind the agreement of the women is necessary as well.
Marriage is basically a verbal contract (can be written as well but verbal recitation is necessary) between the couple as well as her guardian in most cases. There must be mahr or dowry from the husband to the wife, this gift is based his ability and what she asks for. The couple must be of age, sane, and legal for marriage meaning this can't be his fifth wife and she can't be married to another. A man can marry chaste women who are chritians, jews or sabians.. but a mulsim woman can only marry anothe muslim. that said.. a believing women is Prferrable in marriage. One can't marry two sisters at one time.. or marry the mother of an ex wife.. or daughter of an ex wife that he had sexual relations with this also goes for the woman she can't marry an exs son.. or father. there is a feast after the marriage is consumated and hat is all i can think of right now.
Islam doesn't "allow" slavery.. thre is no verse in qura on how to get a slave. However Islam has regulated slavery and incorperated slaves into society to which slavery is abolished. Yes a man can have relations with a slave as long as she is in agreement and he is the soul owner. She has rights similiar to a wife, but her freedom comes when she gives birth (some say upon his death after she gives birth) and a slave in all cases is treated in the same manner that the owner is.. he must be given a right to buy his freedom if he asks.. he also must be fed and clothed in the same manner the owner is. this is another huge discussion in its own right.

I am more curious to know about slaves and their role in society. What exact definition does Islam give to a slave, I am quite sure its not the conventional one that many people think of. I have been curious of this for quite some time.
