I have a friend who is thinking about converting to islam.
He is white and has had no religious beliefs before in his life.
This will be a big change for him.
But deep down in my heart I don't think he can do it but another part says he can.
What are the rewards for converting a muslim, for the new muslim and for the converter?
And what do you think about all this?

P.S. Should he change his name to an islamic name?

as salaam alaikum

I'm not quite sure why it is your concern if you "think" he can do it or not. Unless you are him :) Islam is a big change for anyone coming to it from a belief system or culture that is counter to islam. But it is well worth it. And while all muslims stumble through the process of submiting themselves to their Creator, it should not detere them from trying. We are judged on intent (as well as other things) but as long as we try, and try with sencerity it is Allah who will guide us and make what is good for us easy and detere us from the bad. Once a person believes and knows what they are doing is pleasing Allah and is to their own benefit it really isn't as hard as pre-converts think. Sure your life changes, but it does change for the better. And for the sake of ones soul.. what anyone else thinks if he can do it or not is of no issue.

There is not such thing as a "converter" we humans don't "convert" anyone.. it is Allah who is the changer of hearts not mankind. We simply share the message of truth.. we bare no responsiblity either way.. if one converts it is by the guidance of Allah..
