To Those Who Ask ‘Where is Allah?’::

The ‘mulahidun’ said to Abi Hanifah:

‘In what year did you Lord appear in?’

He said: ‘Allah was present before the recording of any history and before all times, there is no certainty of His beginning.’

They said: ‘We wish from you an example of proof of this from reality!’

He said to them: ‘What is there before the number four?’

They said: ‘Three.’

He said: ‘What is there before three?’

They said: ‘Two.’

He said: ‘What is there before two?’

They said: ‘One.’

He said: ‘And what then is there before one?’

They said: ‘There is nothing before it.’

He said to them: ‘If it is so with the number one, that there is nothing before it, then what about the true ONE-that is Allah?!! He is the beginning, the first, no known beginning for Him.!’

They said: ‘In what direction does your Lord face?’

He said: ‘If you place a lamp in a dark room, in what direction does it shed it’s light?’

They said: ‘In all directions.’

He said: ‘If this is so with created light, then how is it with the Light of the heavens and the earth?!!’

They said: ‘Describe to us something of the context of your Lord. Is He physically solid as iron or liquid as water? Or is He of a gaseous quality such as smoke or water vapour?’

Then he said: ‘Have you sat beside a sick person observing his last breaths?’

They said: ‘We have.’

He said: ‘Did he/she speak to you after death made him quiet?’

They said: ‘No.’

He said: ‘Did he speak and move before death?’

They said: ‘Yes.’

He said: ‘What is it that changed him?’

They said: ‘The exiting of his soul.’

He said: ‘His soul exited the body?’

They said: ‘Yes.’

He said: ‘Describe to me this soul. Is it solid as iron, or is it liquid as with water, or is it gaseous as with smoke or water vapour?’

They said: ‘We know nothing of it’s qualities!’

He said: ‘If it is such with the soul which is created, that you know nothing of it’s qualities, no possibility of knowing and understanding of it’s being, then how is it that you expect for me to describe to you the qualities and understanding the being and existence of our Lord, He who created the souls which we know nothing about?!!!’

Supplication:

O Lord! Help me that I speak the truth in the face of adversity and fear not anyone of your creation, and strengthen me that I not refrain from the truth in any instance. O Lord! Help me that I become enlightened to shed Your Light on others, to lead them to the truth!

O Lord! I ask that you grant me beneficial knowledge and the wisdom and strength to put that knowledge to use in my daily life!

O Lord! I seek refuge with you from knowledge which is not beneficial to me or to my fellow man, and I seek refuge from the spreading of such knowledge! O Lord! I seek refuge with you from knowledge which may be harmful and detrimental to my existence on this earth and in the life hereafter!

O Lord! Help me and teach me to love others as I love myself! And teach me to take count of myself as I take others to count! And help me to realize that forgiveness is the greatest sign of strength, and that vengeance is the greatest sign of weakness. I ask that you strengthen me to forgive others, and I seek refuge with you from seeking vengeance.

O Lord! Do not permit me to be overcome with pride at times of winning and success, and do not allow me to wallow in self-pity at times of weakness and failure. Remind me at times of my failure that it is failure which is the teaching experiment which precedes success.

O Lord! If you take away my profits and riches, then leave for me my works to count for me. And if you take away from me success, then leave for me the power of secrets in order to succeed over the failures. And if you take away from me the blessing of health, then leave for me the blessing of faith.

O Lord! If I progress between the people, then give me the strength to ask forgiveness of them. And if the people progress around me, then give me the strength to forgive them. And if I forget you for a moment O Lord, the I ask that you not forget me from your blessing of forgiveness and mercy! Surely, I seek refuge with you that I not forget you!! Surely, You are the One and Only, the Greatest and Most Powerful, Most Powerful over all things!!

To my muslim brethren:

Do pass this supplication around to your friends, and cause it to be an ongoing good deed for yourself as it spreads, reminding others of good things to supplicate their Lord for.

This message was sent to me in Arabic, and I have translated for you into English, in the hopes that more people could benefit from both the related conversation as well as the supplication.

Send to as many as you can, spreading the reminder to others, in the hopes that you too shall have a portion of the reward for something good. And make a supplication for the one who sent this to you, asking Allah forgiveness for their mistakes and sins, and asking for reward for their efforts.

May Allah reward each for their efforts in His cause. Ameen.
