Hi Lulua,
A very interesting post; thank you for sharing it. I think I knew maybe one of the answers. A couple of questions for you, if you don't mind:

1)What does the name Mohammed actually mean?
2)Where in the Torah does it mention Mohammed? (Your post says the name used for him but does not list the reference.)
3)Do you ever get tired of writing that "sallallaahu alaehe wasallams" every time you write Mohammed's name? :-) I'm thinking about going back and counting how many times that phrase was in your post!

LAST EDITED ON 10-02-02 AT 03:43 PM (GMT)[p]whoops I was wrong first time.

This is probably correct:

"Jesus in the Greek Bible used the Greek word "Periklytos" which means the admirable or glorified one. He called that predicted human prophet "Periklytos". This word corresponds exactly to the Arabic word "Muhammad" which also means the "admired one" or "glorified one." In other words, "Periklytos" is "Muhammad" in Greek.
"

I think it worth pointing out that if the Christian bible is true you would expect it to say a couple of words about Muhammad. Apparently it does. Phew! Got to be said though - It is a very common phrase - you would expect to hear it in every holy book on the planet - I mean "Admired One" - come on.

Salam to all!

Salam dear sister, mashallah for this article, similar to other articles here at IWC. It would be better if the 'answers' were hidden, and try and give it to tita and other non-muslims and 'muslims' to try and answer it.

I hope everyone reads the answers and does not forget the answers, (i might put another test with the same questions but in a different format, lol). I hope everyone calms down after the 'heated' forum of compartive section of IWC!

What passage are you referring to, Netty?

Since the Bible was completed way before Mohammed, I do not expect it to say anything about him, unless it is strictly in a prophetic sense. Of course, to Muslims the Bible is hopelessly corrupted anyways, so they wouldn't pay much attention to whether Muhammed's name appears or not.

Hi,
Use Google and do a search on the words I pasted in.

A minister once told me "you can find more or less anything in the bible - it really depends on what you are looking for".

If you are looking for Mohammed, The Beatles, World War 2 or Einstein you will probably find them. And Why not?

I'm talking about in the original words of the Bible, the part that you actually translate, not interpret. As in, "In Luke 33:18, the word used for water in the Greek is . . . , which has the meaning of not just water, but fresh, healthy water." (I made that example up.)

Assalaamu alaikum ya muslimeen.

Greetings and good day to all.

Sorry for my terrible delay in response, Tita...as you can see, I have been busy these past couple of days weeding out thru my email inbox, posting here what I have felt to be worthy of posting for others to view, deleting other messages, and replying to many outdated emails. (whew...terrible when it all piles up on you like that!!)

Anyways...perhaps I should have clarified my post when posting...this list of quiz questions is not something that I made up myself, but was sent to me via email. I have reviewed it before posting, so I know that there is nothing questionable in regards to Islamic knowledge, but again...cannot vouch for it personally.

As for the name 'Mohammed'...it is a unique name that was the first of it's kind (in other words, prophet Mohammed(SAAW)) was the first to be named such. I speak and understand fluent Arabic, but will be candid to admit to you that I am not an expert on the Arabic language and the grammar. However, will try to explain to you in 'lay' terms about this name. The name 'Mohammed' is more of a verbal tense of the root 'Hamid', which means 'praise', or 'thanks'. 'Praise' being the better description, perhaps. 'Praise' also indicating 'admiration'. So, the transfer of the word or name into 'Mohammed', the 'mo' at the beginning indicating a singular indication of personification, turning this name into meaning 'the praised one', or the 'admired one'. The man, Mohammed(SAAW) himself, was also called other 'handles' if you will...such as 'the trustworthy' (al-Amin), among others. But his 'given' name was 'Mohammed'(SAAW).

Now ... your question about 'saaw' which occurs after the name of Mohammed(SAAW)...it is not only a common practice in Islam to do so, but as well an order and advice given to us in the Quran itself...to remember some reverance always when referring to our beloved prophet(SAAW). And, no...I don't get tired of typing this in. It has become quite easy, in fact...and seems wierd, to say the least...when I omit it. To the point where I feel that I am committing a dire mistake and perhaps a sin to omit it. Because this is a command and advice directly from God, which we get from the Quran...so I must abide by such an advice, as I try my best to abide by all other advices that I receive from the Quran, such as wearing the hijab, praying, fasting, etc. It is simply another aspect of Islam..taking the advice that I get from the Quran, and applying it in my daily life, seeking the pleasure and approval of Allah. As well, as I have explained at the beginning of this message-reply...I did not compose that list of the quiz questions myself, so it was not I that typed in all those 'saaw'...but rather I copy-pasted it for you here. But...if you are so interested, then go back thru my other posts, and try to count all the times that I have typed it in there. hehe. Quite a challenge, I'd say.

Anyways, I hope that such a post is helpful to all.

And please do keep coming with the questions...trying to seek more knowledge of Islam. We will be more than happy to oblige with you, to the best of our abilities, inshaAllah.

Lulua.

Lulua,

Would you mind my making some inquiries here; you have mentioned several things about which I am curious?

> Because this is a command and advice directly from God, which we get from the Quran..<

I have asked several others about where this is found in the Quran, but get no response. Perhaps you could show me?

>... the name 'Mohammed'...it is a unique name that was the first of it's kind (in other words, prophet Mohammed(SAAW)) was the first to be named such.<

How then can it be said that he is mentioned by name in the Jewish or Christian scriptures, as I have read several times in Islamic literature and posts here?
