View Full Version : Problems..Solutions
Salam to all!
How is everyone?
There is no topic started here yet...i thought i should start one, as being a youth myself.
As a brother who attends college, me and other 'prayeroom' as we are known as, we sit in the prayer room and discuss the sitaution of the ummah as being youth.
We get a problem being faced by the muslim youth and we try and find solutions to it.
Now if i may start with one big hole that many youth face in this day and age;
>Music
>Relationships.
These are two main problems, i think which result in other small fitna cases.
I want others (youth) replying and giving there insight to some solutions which should save us from this cancer of fitna.
Remember, as one sheikh told me; You have to know kufr to know islam'
Meaning, you have to know what is kufr, and how or what to stay away from..
So get typing fellow youths on the net..
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-05-02 AT 00:56 AM (GMT)]Assalamu alikom brother...
you are very right... these are just two of many. Solutions... pretty hard.
The only thing I could think of is being with devout muslims.. those who help us be close to Allah and remind us of Allah and his commandments.
Now lets start with music:
To solve this disease we must first know the nature of that disease and then look for solution. Why not take it one step at a time. let us know discuss the evils of music. Not just islamicly but also what has been proven by science .. which confirms our findings.
After finding and knowing the disease, we must look at the medication and its benefits, side effects etc. Our medication is the Quraan... the words of Allah. So we can here speak of the benefits of Quraan and all that.
And finally how do we make the transition... how do we cure the disease. And this is the hard step because it is not just in the mind... but mind, soul and in the physical sense... TURN OF THAT RADIO!!!!!!
Just a suggestion... why don't we start two new threads... as follows:
1. Evils of music
2. The healing power of Quraan
And we can keep this thread for the final phase which is the transition. actual steps... real action. (yes? no? Br.BinZiad what do u say?)
It might seem impossible... it is not. If one or two people were able to do it... we all can.
I studied in psychology that nothing is impossible.. that when u say i can't... chances are you won't be able to... ur brain works like this.. .if u say i can do it... then u will be able to inshaallah.. its just that ur brains believe YOU. They have trust in YOU. And thus, if you keep saying I can I can I can... eventually you will. Thus... first things first.. from now on... if u want to cure this disease called "Music"... tell urself u will be able to.
Secondly, you must know that time is no problem. We do not need to do it TODAY.... we will eventually... it might take u a week, two a month... but it will come inshaAllah. Do not rush ... everything is nice when its time for it.
Thirdly, honestly want to do it. U can't say "yea whatever ok i'll stop". IT has to be "I WANT TO STOP! HELP ME!" This attitude is the only one that will get u out.
So... for today... today's "step" towards curing our first disease is... put on the quraan. Listen to the words and not just put it in the background.
Pick a sura u like so much... if u don't know any cause u never tried any (which i hope is not the case)... or if u just want a change, here is a suggestion (personally i love this sura by that specific shykh)
Alhadid (Shykh al Ajmi) http://www.islamway.com/arabic/images/quran/agmy/057.ram
enough for today :)

As-Salamu-Alaikum Warahmatullah
Let me go further with relationships. In general, the closest relations for a youth are friends, boyfriend or girlfriend and family is usually the last one to turn to - this is what I, as a teenager, see all the time. Most of the teenagers find it hard to mix around with family members.Don't mention aunts and uncles... with just siblings around are considered annoying, and parents are seen as barriers to musch desires. As new people who have grown up into the adult world, the urge of trying anything new can't be erased. With friends at the same age and also have the same interest tends to make teenagers more comfortable to hang around with them than family.I think parents need to notice this and understand their children's feelings then try to have them stick with their family wisely because they once gone through such age too. However, we can't just put a full blame on parents, we need to know that they are human beings too and are facing their own problems which makes it hard to focus all of their attention on us.
I know what the youth want all the time...freedom.Just freedom to do whatever that are cool in the eyes.Believe me, sometimes I feel like being in a cage too but think again, what can those things we desires always do for our future? Why do parents nag, especially mothers? That is because they love us.They won't waste their saliva for nothing. They want us to be good.Maybe once in a while we did mistake and come back home, having to go through some blabbering.Take it from there that it is something good, ignore the irritating noise, realise the mistake made and try not to do it again.Don't ever think of running away because such action will soon be regretted.Consider how much parents have sacrifice to raise us up.You won't know how happy and lucky it is to be in the warmth love of a family.Yes, it really really is :-) .
It is okay to have friends.Of course everyone needs one, but make sure you pick the correct person to be your companion.Friends bring great influence to our lives so if you choose the right one, insya' Allah, he will lead you to the right way.Just like a person who works in a perfume store, will always has a nice smelling with him whenever he leaves the place.
Next, the girlfriend-boyfriend relationship thing.I guess this need not to go any further as we all already know that it is wrong in the eye of Islam. You can start a relationship with the opposite sex when you are serious about it, if not then do not ever come near such action.Do it the correct way, get married, make it official because that can prevent from complicated problems.Just bear in mind that responsibilities awaits for new marriage couple. One thing I disagree is about young ladies running away from parents in order to be with their lover. If I have the oppotunity to speak to one of them, I would say, "Now think...how long have our parents serve us, showering much love? And how long have you met this boyfriend of yours? Has he ever done anything more special than parents?"

Salam to all!
Very helpful words, fro everyone..such insight, which is lacking in all youths..(inlc me)
I will add a few words on the 'friends' part, as i have alot of assignments now, i will inshallah carry on with this..
I would like to just say, there is a saying that goes by;
'If you are with a thief, you will pick up something.'
'If you spend time with a sheikh, you will surely pick up something.'
'It does not matter if you are good or bad....if you spend few days with a theif, you will pick up some 'tips', if you spend some time with a sheikh, you will pick up some scholarly tips, it does not matter if you understand it or not, you will learn something,...you will not be a thief, but have certain knowledge of stealing, and on the other side, if you are with a sheikh, you will gain something..'
SO chose your friends properly...as they are the ones who guide you...would you want to lose jannah...just because of some 'cool' friends.....?
MOre next time...!
Sadiq
Greetings to all!
i would just say one thing, to make it more interesting;
What are the causes of people going to music?
what are the problems?
I know many brothers and sisters, whether here or not, have stoppped or have not chosen the path to listen to music, which make us all be ever so gratful to allah, for without his guidance, we will all be lost.
I want to hear strong points, from both sides, as to why?! they listen, and to show what are the result of listening?!
Please, reply...and i will prepare a post later, a lot of work down my way..!
Sadiq!
Salam to all!
I said I would write a post, short, as you can see below, but with the amount of work, I can rarely come on IWC or the internet.
Let us begin, and please do add more points if you have any and correct me if required.
Music.
1) First of all, I think one of the problems, comes from the parents. Many might disagree, but it is one of the major problems with all the things that make our fellow youths to turn to the other path. Parents are not aware or do not stop their children. This is regarding music, and many other ills, which could’ve been stopped, by few words by the dear parents.
The parents play a major role in the problem, my reasons are that; they are not aware, or they are aware of their child listening to music, but they resort to ignoring him/her. This is similar to the problem of hijab, many sisters do not wear hijabs, and when their parents or friends ask them to wear it at the age of 16-19, they refuse, this would’ve been avoided if the parents put their foot down, so to say, at an earlier age. Similar to music, many parents, do not raise their voice or they themselves listen to it, who knows?.
Parents need to read, and tackle this issue of music, dramatically, at a young age. For this disease, is very hard to control, or to come off, when one becomes old, as I have seen. Many can stop their craving for music, all praise belongs to allah, I know many brothers like this, but there are others, who just cannot. A problem, if it is not controlled, within the house, it will ‘not’ make the person clear in the mind and heart.
As one scholar said, so clearly; your heart ‘will’ not have the quran and the satans quran (music) together, you can either have the quran in your heart, or you can either have music.
From this, the scholar was trying to say, that if your heart is full of music, it will be very hard to listen or to reflect upon the quran, such a state.
2) The other point is, friends. Many might say how?, but this is another problem or if used properly a great benefit, the subject of friends. The friends play a role in guiding them. Similar to the notion of, worshiping, everyone in the world worships something, if they do not worship god, they will worship something, whether it is their desires or money or cars or plastic women or whatever, everyone worships something.
Everyone in the world needs guidance, if the mother does not tell the child, that the scissors is not a good thing, will it be easy for the child to cut themselves. So guidance is something that is greatly mentioned in the quran and sunnah. And parents are not always there, the friends are always there to listen, talk to, play and so on. They play another major role.
As another example, I will give, as one scholar was telling us that, as 2 drunken men will help each other on the street, he carries on, imagine one is just going towards the side about to fall, the other drunken man will try and pick him up, if the second one is slowly falling backwards, the first one will try and help him. Similar to this, we all need others, to help us, when we are falling, we are all weak and not perfect, but helping each other is something that many friends do, good or bad. ……So having good friends is something, which many Muslims stress, and when one sees the benefits, he will just spend a week trying to find good friends.
When one has good friends, who do not listen to music, the person if sincere will try and stop their music with the help of his/her friends. Similar to the bad friends, if they smoke in the corners, drive fast cars, and wear rings, if you do not wear it, they will help you wear it, and you ‘will’ try and do their things.
Friends are objects that cause many to go to music, ‘my mate knows the words of this song’, and many of our youth, go and learn the songs just to be on the ‘charts’ of friends.
And the other side of the bright coin, friends can save one from harm…or going towards music. They play a very vital role, when one is young and when one is old.
3) Lack of nasheeds, recitations.
Many don’t have an alternative so to say, if the person wants to give up smoking, there are fake ones that help people slowly get rid of the habit, as there is a feeling of having something on your hand or near your mouth. This attitude, I think should also be taken regarding the music topic. If people who like to listen to stuff, if you take away the words, the songs, their should be something to replace it….many also don’t pay….$$ for cdplayers, minidisk players for no reason…so their should be something that they can put into these devices.
There are many nasheeds out there, which have helped many youths. As many brothers, who I know, have resorted to nasheeds, as they used to listen to music before. Many try and sing it to me, …..we do have some broken glass! Lol!. The cost of nasheeds are a thing to consider too.
Recitations is something that is helpful, but they are very hard to find or either they are on the internet, the various sheikhs. And many youths do not use internet…and those who use it..are not aware of sites which have recitations.
Nasheeds is something that is lacking…to be an alternative…..but if the cds are to expensive, you can always sing to them…or give moi a bell?! Why not?!
3) The devices. Many brothers and sisters, just get into this system of the west, as they (the west) are known to dictate peoples life. They would set out a dress sense, eg blue with yellow…and this would result in the celebrities wearing it, the footballers…the adverts…and they create such a system were, if you do not do it, you are different. Many are scared to be different, whether they know that they are the truth or not. This concept is passed onto everyone, including us without we even knowing…..you will see everyone having the same hair cuts…and it all goes back to some few individuals, that all copy. This is the same line we are taking, and forgetting that we have our own dresses, our own hair cuts and above all, being different is not bad.
The TV is one major thing too. As referred to as the second mum. Many mothers just tell their child to go and watch tv, when they are cooking, washing and so forth. And the content showed on the tv is getting worse and worse by the day. And parents are not up to date with the programs on the tv set. To advertise the toilet roll, they need some half plastic coated women. The issue of music is also going mad, causing our fellow youth to go into music.
There are so many channels, that are so many, there are small programs and every single advert needs music, every introduction to a program and so on. Everywhere there is music, how can one stay away?.
Many have been taken into this ride, without even knowing. There are so many programs, soaps e.t.c. which show kids of similar age also going towards music, talking about stars, groups e.t.c. Every where you go on the tv, even the news shows super stars, and many ‘so-called’ recognised, intelligent, rich people saying, music is a way forward. It gives me hope and all that junk.
The introduction of so many radio station just makes life so hard for everyone….music upon music. Will we not be tested regarding all our limbs?…protecting our ears just gets hammered by so many nails and stations..were is one to go?.
It is very easy for those who don’t listen to it, to say…’just give it up’ and similar stuff, but I know many brothers, who just cant give up….cant stop.
> The parents need to takeaway these devices or to control their usage, the friends need to give kind advice…when one is falling of the mountain, for not tying the rope properly, do you push him off, or do you help him?…the doors were always open, by the dear prophet. One should use wisdom. The alternative should be always there…..either provided by the parents or friends..
>These are my words about this issue…I can write more…but I want others to give their insight, as there are many youths here at IWC who are more knowledgeable then me and can answer more then me. I will add more later….this is for now…need to do other things…(practice nasheeds, oppps) and assignments.
Sadiq! A simple brother in the world of brothers.!
Evils of Music
By Maulana I. Suleman
Assalamu Alaikum dear respected brothers, sisters, learned scholars, friends, and colleagues.
In the 20th century, as we approach its end, we have a big fuss being made over the new millennium. In England, we see the fuss in the form of a big dome. We have the fuss over the computer millenium bug. One way or the other, whether we read the papers, listen to the radio, listen to the reports by journalists on sky, the essential argument that is put forward is that the millennium will bring something bad with it and mankind has to do something to fight it otherwise we, as human beings, will be at a loss. If we look at the book, Ghost in the Machine written by Arthur Kestler, he looks at the 20th century and his main argument is that society, in the 20th century, has reached a stage as a direct result of scientific experiementations that people are at a stage that you can program them in whichever way you want. His argument is referred to as behaviourism. The scientists have discovered that if we give mankind a certain amount of training to do something, he will go that way without us doing anything. So, it is as though our minds are programmed to respond in a certain way given the right circumstances. A small example is that you can train a rat to do anything and this is the example Arthur Kestler gives in his book. You can train a rat to go and take the long route for its food. Likewise, in the modern day we have certain traps and tricks of Shaytaan to beguile mankind, not just the Muslims. Mankind is losing the identity that it acquired naturally regardless of what religion he follows.
The concept of behaviourism, programming the mind to behave in a certain way is evident today in Europe and America. The young generation of Muslims growing up in western society has been programmed to ponder upon three or four issues that must be very important to him because these are the things that give him popularity, street credit, worth on the street. It revolves around these four issues. And all these four issues deal with the outside of a person.
In England, 500 million pounds is spent on male cosmetics, not even women cosmetics like lipstick and nail polish, but 500 million pounds is spent only on male cosmetics. Why? Because the argument is put forward that the only reason you are going to get any worth, any status, is by the way you look. Which clothes do you wear? Which designer labels do you have in your closet? Do you wear Armani? Do you wear Ralph Lauren Polo? Do you drive a Mercedes? Your look is a trade worth 500 million pounds. So the brain has been programmed this way: You should have this product and the brain has been programmed to believe that if you dont have this product, you will have no street credit.
The other issue that occurs is which political party or trend to you support. And this does not occur until you enter the doors of a university. This will give you your street credit. Are you to the right? Are you to the left? Or are you in the middle?
The third issue is that what type of sport do you indulge in. This may mean the football team you support because that is going to give you street credit. That is going to make you look cool.
And the fourth issue is the type of music you listen to. And this fourth issue doesnt just affect the youngsters of today, but it affects the adults, the youth, and the old-aged pensioners. It is on a global level that the damage is being done. The music industry, on a global level, is worth one billion dollars. That is the music trade. If you compare those figures to the economic figures of some third world countries, you will find on the one hand, you have one billion dollars of the music industry and on the other hand, countries like Africa, a third world country, does not even generate more than half a billion. In 1997 in England, according to figures published by the corporate intelligence in London, just the music cassettes and records and CDs were worth 1, 767,000,000 pounds. And this is only in England. And they informed us that by the year 2002, you can expect the sales to go up to 2 billion pounds. These figures tell you that the interest in music will increase day by day. The sales on Hi-fi equipment (record players, CD players, stereo systems, etc.) in 1997 was worth 1,492,000,000 pounds and in the year 2002 that number will go up to 1,500,000,000 pounds. From this, we can see that the music industry is never going to go down. And in the same report, it said that the new labour government has established a specific task force to make sure that music and the sale of music increases in England over the next generation period. If a young Muslim is trying to order something over the phone, hes told, Wait a minute, Sir, and you have the top ten hits blowing down your ears. You go to the Supermarket, Costco, Safeway, wherever you go, you have music pumped down your ears. Wherever we go, music is all around us, whether we listen to it or whether we claim not to listen to it, it is around us. And if we look at this issue in the Quranic teachings and Hadith teachings, we will see something different. Allama Qurtubi who belongs to the thirteen century said that in the whole of the Quran, there are three verses that refer to music. Im going to deal with one. The Quran says: And beguile whomsoever of them you can with your voice (17:64).
When Shaytaan was evicted from Paradise, he complained to Allah and a dialogue took place. Mufti Shafi included it in his book, Islam and Music, page 163. On the authority of Allama Ibnul Qayyum Al-Jowzy, a fourteenth century scholar, he narrates a dialogue between Shaytaan and Allah when Shaytaan. When he was evicted from Paradise, he complained to Allah, I have been evicted from Paradise and it is going to be my task to make human life on earth a mission impossible. Im going to make sure that he boards the joy ride to Hell. That is my mission, but I will need some tools for that.
Shaytaan said: Where will I go in the world?
Allah replied: Your place is the public baths i.e., swimming pools, beaches, etc. (places of nudity).
Shaytaan: Where will I sit and spend my time?
Allah: In the town centers, in the market places i.e., malls, shopping centers, street corners.
Shaytaan: What will be my food?
Allah: Every animal that is not slaughtered according to Shariah principle, in the name of Allahthat will be your food i.e., haraam food, and you influence will penetrate into the person who eats such a food. (What do we see in the world today?)
Shaytaan: What will be my drink:
Allah: Every intoxicant will be your drink. (Notice that the word intoxicant is used, which means anything that intoxicates and not only alcohol.)
Shaytaan: What will be my Quran?
Allah: Your Quran will be music.
Shaytaan: You will have a person who will call towards prayer and success, so who will be my prayer caller?
Allah: Your prayer caller will be the musician.
The Quran tells us music and musicians is this and society tells us music and musicians are something else. Compare the two versions.
Shaytaan further asks: What will be my speech with which my influence will permeate within that person?
Allah replied: Lies.
Shaytaan: What will be my trap with which I can fish the human being into coming towards my way?
Allah: Women.
So music in the modern day is an art and the musician in the modern day, is a celebrity and an artist. The Quran tells us that music is the voice of Shaytaan. The hadith tells us that music is the Quran of Shaytaan. Now we must think about the path we are taking. We have to use the intellect, which Allah has bestowed upon us. There is a verse in the Holy Quran that describes the Jewish community at the time of Madina, the time of the Prophet SAW. Today that verse is befitting upon the Muslim community. It states that their hearts were disunited because they did not use their intelligence. We, Muslims, have to think now and not let others bombard us with useless information. Is our life only going to a corner shop or a gas station or fighting in the mosque everytime we meet? Is that our life? We have to think beyond this. The Muslims were the people who have the world intelligence. Hamilton Gibb was an Oxford lecturer united by the Queen. William Watt was a lecturer at Edinburgh University. Im not quoting Muslims. These are non-Muslim orientalists that studied Islam and said that the Muslims were the people who give Europe its lifestyle and it was the Muslims who gave Europe the intelligence to think with. They gave them the principle, the methodology to think with and now we have taken it over, but we dont want to think.
We are like an alarm clock. It has a start button, a stop button, and a snooze button. We are at the snooze button. We just carry along with no care in the world. People can bombard us with any theory and we just accept it. Why? Because we are not using the Quran. Its there; its full of intelligence. Besides everything else, music is only one issue here.
And in todays world, music has taken a very dangerous turn. A man named Alister Crowley, who died in 1947 put forward a suggestion that people should learn to think backwards, write backwards, speak backwards and this theory of his was a Satanists. He was one who worshipped the devil and todays musicians have picked up on this theory. Musicians like Michael Jackson, Madonna, The Spice Girls, the Beatles, and all modern groups from the 60s to today are using Crowleys idea.
Music is worked out on three different levels. One is backtracking. This is when you play a record forward such as the song everyone seems to know, Another one bites the dust. If you play that record forward, you have the song, Another one bites the dust. But if you play it backwards with certain expensive tools, then the message on this song will be, Its fun to smoke marijuana. The argument put forward is that we cannot listen to the words, Its fun to smoke marijuana. Professor William Yellowed was a head of a company in the USA. He was told to carry out a study on the brain by the Pentagon. He is called over in a court hearing. A consumer committee was dealing with a complaint that an album by Led Zeppelin had backtracked messages and these backtracked messages were having a wrong affect on the mind and brain of a person and the court wanted Professor William Yellowed to confirm it. So he confirmed it and described how it happens. The brain is divided into two main areas. There is a right side and a left side and then there is a Euro-tunnel in the middle. Everything that we understand or tend to understand passes through the right side. If you understand it, then you understand it, but if you dont, then it will pass through this vacuum and go onto the left side and on the back of the left side, there is the sub-conscious memory, which is a very powerful too that Allah has given to human beings. It is called the cerebella. It works like a camera. If you give it a negative image, it will give you a positive message, so if you push through the brain a negative and backward sentence then it will read it frontwards. So, the phrase, Another one bites the dust will be understood as Its fun to smoke marijuana. And this sentence and message will stay there in the brain if you do not sit in the company of pious people. If you are spiritually very low, which is the big vacuum of the modern day society, that message will definitely affect you. What do we see today? This is the backtrack method.
The second level which music has worked out on is known as back masking. Music is written on seven notes. Ill try to make it a simple explanation. The fourth and fifth are the best notes. Another way around Satan: will be written as notes and then everything would be written the other way around and then youll have a new message.
Ninety-nine percent of books that are written on music are in favour of music. One percent of the works in the library are against music and in that you have to look with a microscope to find a sentence which is really against it. You may have heard two years ago about children who were killing their colleagues in school. Who knows that the cause may be the CDs they listen to in private in their bedrooms whilst parents are thinking that theyre doing their homework and at least they are not on the streets causing mischief.
The third level which music has worked out in the modern era is that the so-called artist, so-called celebrity is acting out the message on stage. Michael Jackson is well known for his immorality on stage. The Spice Girls and Madonna are also well known for this.
My brothers, music, drugs, and other activities are forms of drugs. If youre not pushed with the white powder drug then it is the drug of media. If its not the drug of the media then its the drug of music. If its not the drug of music, then its some other form of drug. All this is connected to what Arthur Kestler mentioned in this work, The Ghost in the Machine, which I mentioned in the beginning. It is related to behaviourism. You control people like that. People like Mic Jager of the Rolling Stones; he confirmed the big rows of disco lights and music is a powerful indoctrination tool and this is what youngsters are getting into. Sometimes if you look at a car and you check out the stereo system in it, youll find that the system is worth much more than the car. How can that be justified? The Quran tells us that the people who are expensive spenders are brothers of Shaytaan. And music is one other thing, which comes from the accursed devil. May Allah save our children and us from it!
