Violence against civilians and suicide bombs are contrary to teachings of the Prophet Muhammad.

Another (controversial?) viewpoint.

Salam to all!

Jazakallah for sharing that article. But i hope you and i and everyone understand the issue of 'difference'. This is the stance taken by the majortiy of scholars of the world about martyrdom opeartion, which is different from sucide bombings. Suicide is not allowed under any circumstances, but martrydom opeartion is allowed and praiseworthy.

The Prophet (saw) said, "He who commits suicide by throttling shall keep on throttling himself in the Hell Fire (forever) and he who commits suicide by stabbing himself shall keep on stabbing himself in the Hell-Fire." (Sahih Bukhari)

As Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali wrote in Ahya-ul-Uloom ud Din:

There is no dispute that it is permissible for a single Muslim to launch an attack on a whole battalion of the enemy and fight with them even though he may be certain of his death in the attempt.

Ibn `Abideen says in his Hashiyah (4/303), "There is no objection to a man fighting alone, even if he thinks he will be killed, provided he achieves something such as killing, wounding or defeating , for this has been reported from a number of the Sahabah in the presence of the Messenger of Allah on the Day of Uhud, and he praised them for it. If, however, he knows he will not inflict any loss on them, it is not permissible for him to attack, for it would not contribute to the strengthening of the religion."

..........

So remember the difference about sucide terms and martrydom. And also remember the is a very big difference between palestine and sept 11th. The last response is agreed upon and it makes sense regarding martyrdom opeartions. But there are scholars who 'do not' hold this to be allowed in islam, one needs to respect thier views, but the majority have held sucide haram, but not martrydom opeartion to be haram.

As Abdulaziz Sachedina, of the faculty of religious studies at the University of Virginia, puts it this way:

"It is [a] very wrong perception that 'The injustices around me justify my own injustices.' But quite to the contrary, there is no such justification in Islamic law or Islamic tradition in general. One cannot engage in an unjust act just by the claim that there is an unjust act that we all are confronted with."

So there is a difference amougst the scholars regarding this type of action, but most hold it to be allowed with the correct conditions.
