Statement from IslamiCity
(Los Angeles, 9/5/02) Hatred knows no bounds. For several hours, access to the servers which hosts the IslamiCity web site was disrupted by a "denial of service attack". No data was compromised during this attack. IslamiCity technical team is investigating the source of attack and worked tirelessly to secure all communication lines and servers. Earlier attacks were found to have originated from Tel Aviv which were reported to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
IslamiCity condemns this action and believe that such attacks undermine the opportunity to enhance awareness and knowledge leading to a better understanding of people, faiths and cultures.
We recommend Muslim website operators to be alert and carefully monitor all activity. Any spikes in traffic or bandwidth utilization should be carefully looked into and recorded. Any type of threat should be reported immediately to FBI to be investigated as potential hate-crime. We also request you to share any abnormal activity (at your site) with IslamiCity. Sharing of information will help locate the perpetrators.
IslamiCity may arguably be the largest Islamic website in cyberspace serving more than 2 million visitors each month that log over 50 million hits. The current IslamiCity servers have a total disk capacity of over 500GB. Recently, people of other faiths embracing Islam at IslamiCity has increased many folds.
IslamiCity operates from the support of its online community. We ask you to strengthen our common struggle to disseminate the message of Truth. Your assistance is a perpetual contribution towards the understanding of Islam in the West and also a resounding response to those who like to silence the voice of Islam in cyberspace.
In the coming days, we will be forced to further upgrade our Internet Security infrastructure against such attacks.
