View Full Version : Internet usage : Save yourself from this trap before you are lost
When a Muslim hears the call for prayer, he should rise up to the remembrance of Allah and not let anything take him away from answering that call. The Lord SWT said: In houses that Allah ordered to be built and His name to be mentioned in them mornings and nights, men who are not diverted by trade or selling from the Remembrance of Allah, pray, give alms, fear a day where hearts and eyesight’s are diverted in all directions. (24:36-37)
The Internet is a way for communication that is considered a double-edged weapon. When it provides benefit, it becomes a gift. And when it provides evil, it becomes a disgrace. Muslim should use the good side of this facility to serve his religion and life, rather than its evil side that corrupts his religion and life.
It’s very important for internet users to protect their eyes from falling on prohibited scenes.
The prohibited scene is considered Satan’s arrow, his weapon that he uses to spoil the Muslims heart by offering immediate pleasure, followed by long lasting feelings of remorse and regret.
Watching scenes that Allah prohibited causes darkness in the heart, gloominess in the chest and heaviness and reluctance to perform actions of worshiping Allah. It deprives the soul of enjoying the sweetness of deep faith. By all means it is a tool that Satan uses to sugar coat sins with, and the moment one falls in this trap, Satan takes complete control of his heart, and play with it like a young boy who plays with a ball. The end is always a fatal loss.
Don’t let the internet consume your effort and time for no value. That happens when you navigate between the various sites and online groups for long hours. You waste your precious lifetime hours. That time that you should devote for people like your family, parents, children and relatives, or for your job where you earn the living for you and your dependants.
Visit the Islamic Sites frequently. Visit the useful sites that add to your useful information, and widens up your scales of knowledge. Stay away from the sites that promote corruption to Belief or Morals, those groups that seek the spread of Fitnah or controversy, even if this is over religious issues. Bad controversy is of no avail. Don’t interfere in conversations with the enemies of Islam unless you have the necessary knowledge and power that enables you to handle this task. And if not, ask a scholar to handle it instead.
Take caution against the chatting sites. They are traps for males and females to drag them into a prohibited relationship, which often starts by an innocent introduction and end up in mere pain and causes damage to life and faith.
Its either you control or you get controlled by the trap of the internet. If you put it under your control, you take its benefit and shed away its harm. Hence Internet becomes a gift from Allah for your welfare. And if you fall under its control, it blurs your eyes with its glittering charm and temporary pleasures, steals your money, time, life and the duties your have towards your family and beloved ones. You become the prey without being aware of it. Save yourself from this trap before you are lost, and before it is too late.

AND prophet MOHAMAD (peace and sala upon him ) said:(ALLAH will ask you about your time..what did you do? !!)
so prepare your answer
Jazakom Allah khairan for opening up this discussion which is very very important to us as Muslims..... and especially to the young generation.
I myself must admit that I used to spend MOST of my time on the net.... until one day I noticed that I barely sit with my family, barely do things other than "computers". Thus took the decision to cut down.... to tell you the truth... it was exteremely hard!!
So... let us open up the discussion here.... Lets talk about..
1. Causes
2. Problems
3. Benefits
4. Solutions
etc
:)
Who would like to start?
um how about you first Rasha sis ..... : )
JazakAllah khair....
:)
ok no problem inshaAllah...
Regarding sitting on the net... Causes...
I think many things that we have in our lives today pushes us to be on the net...
First of all, the westernization and the new "social order" which we have these days... where the mother "must" work outside the house... the father is away most of the day... children go to schools even if Muslims schools rarely have real islamic teachings in them.... all that together... we have more stress in our daily life due to moving away from the religion of Allah and the rules Allah put forth to us to follow .... all that... results in many things:
1. lots of wasted time..
2. lake of knowledge on how to use that time
3. need for children and young people to speak up to someone...and finding no one who has the time and patience to talk to them... thus they run away to the net... where there are friends for them out there... and people willing to listen to them
4. sometimes its lack of education around us.. example islamic education... so we run to the net to find it... soon however, we are caught in the trap called the net...and we are not only gaining education but doing tones of things... that we slowly waste time without knowing... all the time satan makes us think its "for the sake of Allah"
5. Sometimes its sadness.... and our weak relationship with Allah
Sometimes and most of the time... we think that working through the net is enough.... we forget that working in real life is much more important... :)
that's enough for now... and we'll wait for others to put their two cents in inshaAllah :)
asalamu aliakum,
True, i agree with rasha sis ...... no doubt it can occupy the whole time of the person making him neglect his duties ..obligations in this life and for the herafter, net today should be carefully handle in a right way within the limits set by Allah...
first thing what most of us and kids mostly do when they open the net ...they goto chat rooms ...and even so called few islam rooms where muslims r fighting ,swearing ,cursing...rather than depicting the real strength and purity of the deen in the chat they learn nothing but obscenity either in a slower or a rapid rate ..... once u r addicted to it then ist really hard to resist and one can easily falls in the trap of shitan.. rather spending your valubale time with ur closed ones ,family ...you end up in such chat rooms and sites that promote nothing but fitnah.....
carrying on with the discussion...
chat rooms.. I think everyone was caught into that trap at one time... from my experience.... I say the amount of knowledge you gain from a chat room is .0001%
The amount of wasted time per day will add up to at least 5 - 8 hours.
Amount of knowledge you could gain from reading a book in these hours is way better...
Another trap we get caught into is what sis Yumn called "islamic" chat rooms. ... Just "how" islamic are they? I don't know... I doubt there are many... there might be one or two... certainly not MSN or yahoo chat!
One great voice chat room I have been to ... had lots of halaqas... the moderator of the room is VERY strict. She is just a wonderful sister from the US.
So for all those "addicted" to chat rooms... why not try such good places where knowledge is plentiful...
I would certainly like to visit those rooms which rasha sis mentioned if yu dont mind pls do let us know where excatly we can find these rooms ... jazakAllah khair,
would just like to add few things reagrding chatting..from one of teh articles i read about chatting(foot steps of shytan)... as esp for sisters should be very careful as how many stories for chatting we heard about before that had lead those girls to end up in doing something unlawful like seeing each other or talking on the phone? Or even destroying the houses of marriedcouples?
shytan will not come to the girl from the first time she chats with a certain guy and tell her "go out with this Guy!" he is not stupid he knows very well that if he told you this from the first time you will immediately refuse. However he will definitely let you to reach to such step or even worse by time. For example, it may start with chatting then phone calls, and finally hanging out .
Thus chatting could be the first step. Also we should be aware that one of the ways that the shytan use to make us fall in what is haram without realizing,
Some sisters may claim that they can control them selves and that no way they will leave themselves to reach to a hopeless case, for those know that the son of Adam is very weak, more than we can ever imagine, and if we are able to control some how our self than this is from Allah's mercy, and not because we are smart or because our ability to control things. In fact Allah can take from us this capability and leave us with our weak soul and our shytan. So lets ask Allah to strength our iman inshAllah...
Few tips....while chatting with non mehram.... Try to be straight and direct to the point.....don't get into discussions involving personal issue.... call the non-mehrem "brother" so this prevents the shytan from coming in between....try not to use smiles or any thing like this since this may cause the person you're chatting with, to think about you in a wrong way.... etc,
Yumn(sis) : )
...
Sis Yumn :D
you are right... I think chatting is not good for sisters. period. I do not deny I have been in chat rooms... and from my experience.. I do not recommend it for anyone :)
the site which i mentioned.... i admit i have not visited it for a long while now... but back when i was there.. .it was awesome and I did hear it is still as good as it was. and better...
here is the link... http://laila.aresworld.net/
However, I will warn those who go in... it is not a place for none Muslims to come with an attitude... it is a place for those who will hear the words of Allah and the messenger and say we heard and shall obey with no arguements what so ever. Asking politely is ok... but from my experience with them... the sister and moderating crew are not linient AT ALL. As the main site says... it is a place of learning. Period. i.e. .. there are teachers.. you listen like in a school...and do not argue much. asking questions and teaching if a mistake is said is ok...
well anyways... i recommend the place for those serious about learning the deen and also those addicted to chat rooms cause it is a good alternative.
However, for those who are not addicted to chat rooms... do not go on :) because u will be addicted to it soon :P
salams
JazakAllah khair rasha sis , for the site : )
would like to share the following message related to this topic...originally posted by 'Myst_' ....hope it wil benefit us inshAllah..
The fitnah on the internet has become overwhelming. Fitnah has always existed on the internet, but now, its hard to even check your email without seeing something haram. Whether it's an AD about losing those extra kilos you’ve put on in time for the coming summer or those notorious webcam pop-up ADs which assume that every internet user has shameless, perverted hobbies like secretly filming their neighbour’s wife. It's time to put an end to this cruel commercial blitzkrieg.
Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Whoever amongst you sees an evil, he must change it with his hand; if he is unable to do so, then with his tongue; and if he is unable to do so, then with his heart; and that is the weakest form of Faith".

There are a few ways we can counter this onslaught. Some users turn the graphics off in their browser settings. This turns off all pictures by default. Not a bad option, but this takes away much of the internet’s 'multimedia' experience. The best way is to get an AD Blocking software installed on your computer. These programs eliminate pop-up ads, banner ads, as well as animation and background music. They are highly configurable, so the user can choose what to block and what to allow. There are a few available on the web. The most effective one I've encountered is a program called AdSubtract.
It can be downloaded from this address:
http://www.adsubtract.com/pro/trial/download.html
Note however, that the software is a 30-day trial.
It has the following features:
Blocks banner ads, Speeds surfing, Blocks pop-ups, Blocks animated flash ads, Blocks pop-unders, background music and more. Which means it blocks a lot of the fitnah, give it a try!
Alternatively, here is a completely free AD blocking software – called Proxomitron - that is also a very good program. It basically has the same functionality as Ad Subtract and can be downloaded from this address: http://www.proxomitron.org/download.html
It is not quite as easy to use as AD Subtract but is completely free! No registration or expire dates! Both programs are fairly easy to configure and well worth the effort to install them since they are very good at reducing the Haram we are bombarded with.
"But those who believe and do deeds of righteousness,- We shall soon admit them to Gardens, with rivers flowing beneath,-to dwell therein for ever. Allah's promise is the truth, and whose word can be truer than Allah's?" Quran 4:122
Finally, please forward this to others and inform them about such software so that they may reduce their exposure to the fitnah.
Abu Mas`ud `Uqbah bin `Amr Al-Ansari Al-Badri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Whoever guides someone to virtue will be rewarded equivalent to him who practices that good action".
[Muslim].
Let’s keep the Internet Halal.
