Narrated Abdullah:

The Prophet said, "Whoever has to take an oath should swear by Allah or remain silent." (i.e. He should not swear by other than Allah.)

Narrated 'Umar

The Prophet said, "If anybody has to take an oath, he should swear only by Allah." The people of Quraish used to swear by their fathers, but the Prophet said, "Do not swear by your fathers. "

According to both hadiths above, a person should swear only by Allah. Some other hadiths has stated that it can also be done by supremacy or characteristics of Allah.Sometimes I saw people swearing by the holy Quran, is it okay to do so? Are there any daleel that permits a Muslim to swear by Quran? Maybe I haven't come across such daleel. Can anyone help?

NO it is not okay!!
because it is type of "Beda'a" and as prophet said we should swear by ALLAH only
and anyone swear by anything else HE SHOULD ask for forgiveness because it is "Sherk"
may allah bless you

Thank you for the reply. So it's not okay to swear by the Quran.....but are you sure such action is shirk? Shirk is something serious and I did see a few people swear by the Quran......Are you really sure about what you said, dr.IHAB?

sorry..I'm late
I've ask about this subject for more details and here it is:

ok sis. there are two types :
first : who swear by something and he do believe that this thing might do for him anything....
so this is SHIRK.

second: who swear by something BUT he do not believe that...
so this is BEDAA

and about those who swear by Quran if they do that because it is Allah's words it is permissible but if they swear by Quran as book (that might do something) they 'll be under the first category...

may Allah bless
