Assalaamu alaikum.
As most situations in life do, the recent war upon Iraq has boosted comics world wide to add their bit of satire in viewing the developments of the day. It is a sad state of affairs that such a serious and truly deadly situation be turned into a comic routine...but I think that comedy, even satire...is an outlet for us to vent our pent up emotions on the theme.
Following is only one example of some of the various tales passed around of recent in the Arab world. (i.e. not my own compostion...it's authorship is unknown...but it does show a bit of how the 'common man' views and interprets what he/she sees)
Lulua.
------------
Three bastardly dudes were walking along one day, each challenging the other as to who could prove to be the worst (or best...depending upon how you look at it) bastard.
As they were walking, they noticed an old woman in a nearby stream bed. The first of them said: 'watch me'. And so he proceeded in approaching the old woman, knocking her down unconscious and then returning to his companions, bragging to them of his bastardly deed in attacking the old woman.
The second said: 'I'll surpass that. Watch this.' And so he proceeded to the old woman, and removed her clothes leaving her naked for all passing by to see. She was unconscious, and so could not defend herself nor could she re-clothe herself in modesty. And so he returned to his companions, bragging of his bastardly deed in rendering the old woman naked for all to see. And challenging the remaining companion to surpass him in his evil.
The third one said: 'I have each of you covered. What you did was surely terrible. But here I am, looking on and remaining in silent approval of your deeds. Didn't you know...that old woman is my mother!!'
Now...in retrospect...the first of them was Blair. The second Bush, and the third was Saddam Hussein!! And the old woman...well, she is representing Iraq!!
---------------------------
Not too funny in the true sense of the word...but a satirical way of putting into word format the current handling of Iraq. And it's innocent civilian populace.
May Allah help us all.
