Ma'an - The Israeli army has resorted to fortune-tellers to identify the whereabouts of the captured Israeli soldier, Cpl Shalit, Israeli TV Channel Two revealed on Saturday.
According to the television report, the Israeli army leadership has used at least two fortune-tellers to try to identify the place where Shalit is being held. Cpl Shalit was captured by three Palestinian military wings in the south of the Gaza Strip at the end of June.
The television show revealed that the Israeli army entrusted an Israeli intelligence officer to contact the fortune-teller. The officer headed to a fortune-teller's home with a large number of detailed maps of the Gaza Strip. When he presented the maps to her, she claimed that the soldier was being held in a house in An Nuseirat refugee camp in the centre of Gaza Strip.
The fortune-teller is reported to have provided a detailed description of the house where the soldier is being held, claiming it consists of two rooms, with a number of orange groves in front of the house. The report says that this information was transferred to the Israeli intelligence who later revealed that such a house does not exist in the camp.
The Israeli army did not lose hope and went to another fortune-teller, who claimed that the soldier was being held in another location. Again, it appeared that such predictions were not true.
According to the television report, the army is preparing to implement a wide commando operation in Gaza in case any of the information provided by the two fortune-tellers turns out to be true.
This is the first time that the Israeli army is believed to have used the services of fortune-tellers to obtain intelligence information, or to assist in the implementation of military operations.
