Ramadan message from US President George Bush to Muslims worldwide, specialty to Palestinians

Date: 26 / 09 / 2006 Time: 10:33

Ma'an - The US Consulate General in Jerusalem has issued a special Ramadan message from the Consul General Jacob Walles and from the US President George W. Bush.

The message from the Consul is as follows:

I join with all Americans in sending greetings to all those Palestinians celebrating the holy month of Ramadan.

The American people recognize the importance of the holy month of Ramadan and respect the traditions and values of reflection, humility and charity that are integral to the celebration of Ramadan. Millions of Muslim Americans join you in celebrating Ramadan, praying at thousands of American mosques and sharing Iftar celebrations with their fellow Americans. My colleagues and I at the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem are very happy to be able to join you in celebrating Ramadan.

I also have the honor of sharing with you the following message from President Bush celebrating the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan Kareem!

Jacob Walles

Message from the President:

I send greetings to the many Muslims observing Ramadan in America and around the world.

Ramadan is the holiest time of the Muslim year and an important holiday when Muslims take time for prayer, fasting, and personal sacrifice. According to Islamic teachings, this month represents when God delivered His word to the prophet Muhammad in the form of the Qur'an. Ramadan is also an opportunity to gather with friends and family and show thanks for God's blessings through works of charity.

Ramadan and the upcoming holiday seasons are a good time to remember the common values that bind us together. Our society is enriched by our Muslim citizens whose commitment to faith reminds us of the gift of religious freedom in our country.

Laura and I send our best wishes for a blessed Ramadan.

Ramadan Mubarak.

President George W. Bush

Meaning of those messages might be good but when we remember how much blood of muslims around the world is the hands of Bush and allies of US, what kind of rude "joke" this really is...

And this is reality of Ramadan in Palestine:

Payment comes in eggs during a difficult Ramadan
(Hebron) Sa’ed Al Shoukhi
Tuesday, 26 September 2006

As many Palestinians face the eighth consecutive month without salaries, government workers in Hebron are honoring the holy month of Ramadan with little allowance for the iftar meal that comes at sunset after a day of fasting.

And if the situation does not improve within the month, by the time Eid arrives there will be no money for news clothes and gifts for the children. There seems to be little hope for the over 160,000 government employees in the West Bank who in dire financial straights.

Ahmed Badar Abu Allan has served as an officer in the Preventive Security Forces in the southwestern Hebron District town of Adh Dhahiriya for nearly 10 years. He bought a plot of land, built a house, married, and had a son and daughter.

However, since early this year Abu Alan has worked without pay. As a result, he is struggling to take care of his family. He told PNN Tuesday that he has begun to sell his belongings, including all of the books in his home, to scrape together just enough money to get by another week. For Abu Allan, every day seems worse than the previous. He told PNN today, “I am a fighter. Even if I have to live one week to the next, I will provide for my family.”

Another Adh Dhahiriya resident, Mohammed Najar, described how not being paid is affecting all Palestinians. Najar, who owns an auto repair shop, told PNN Tuesday that one of his recent customers paid his bill with eggs. Najar said he understood and graciously accepted. He stated, “I have to help out where I can. And besides, I could use the eggs!”
In addition to the stories told here, stories on the street of how not being paid is causing suffering to all of Palestine’s children are numerous.

Today marks the fourth day of the holy month of Ramadan. Preparations for Eid will begin in less than a month, but many families will be unable to give clothes, shoes, candy, and almonds that are traditional gifts for the holidays. The difficulty for most workers lies not in sacrificing these treats, but in finding a way to help their children celebrate.

Thanks for this president Bush and allies of US!
