An Israeli governmental committee has approved the resumption of development of a controversial bridge from the ancient Mughrabi Gate to the Dung Gate of the Old City of Jerusalem.

The bridge, when completed, will come within meters of the grounds of the Al-Aqsa mosque, the third holiest site in Islam.

The construction of this bridge is perceived by many Muslims as a plot to undermine the foundations of the Al-Aqsa mosque in order to replace it with a Jewish temple.

The site of the Al-Aqsa mosque is claimed by Jews to be the site of the Temple Mount, and many attempts have been made by Jewish terrorist groups to destroy the mosque in order to rebuild the Temple.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has also given his blessing to the renewed construction.

The approval of construction goes against a ruling by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, which had ruled that the risks outweighed the gains of such construction.

This situation reflects the sorry state of our Ummah. We have lost the rights to any mercy from Allah as we have become like sheep.
